Operating TheatreThe simulated theatre had its last "real" operation in July, 2003. It came into our hands when the Burns Unit moved to its upgraded facility. So the theatre is completely fitted out with scrub sink, lights, operating table, piped gases and a functioning anaesthetic machine. In the unlikely event of a real disaster, we are confident that we could simply move the simulator out to restore it to service once more. |

Control RoomThe control room is where the scenarios are coordinated. It is the "nerve centre" of the unit. In addition to the simulation equipment, it is provided with audio-visual equipment allowing for videotaping of the scenarios to assist with feedback. An intercom system ensures that the participants will have some assistance with those cues a mannequin might not display (sweating, pallor etc.). |
Debriefing RoomsThe debrief rooms are where the real learning occurs. With a bit of peace and quiet, the participants are able to discuss the events of the afternoon, learning from each other as they see the scenario from different perspectives. Our instructors facilitate the debriefing, assisted by video playback of the simulation. | |
Confidentiality
We take confidentiality seriously in the Simulation Unit. When you arrive, you will be asked to sign a form stating that you will not talk about the other participants outside the unit. After all, you wouldn't want them talking about your performance...
We only use one videotape in the unit, which is constantly over-written, so you won't have to worry about anyone outside your group watching your performance.
By the way, the photos you see on this website have all been cleared with the participants prior to release.
